The Decreased Sales Of Cars Are Not Considered To Be Due To Weak Purchasing Power

JAKARTA - Monetary Expert Cyrillus Harinowo assessed that the decline in car sales in Indonesia was not due to the weak purchasing power of the people, but because of the factor of doubt to buy vehicles.

Cyrillus said he made this conclusion after reviewing the comparison of sales performance from major companies in other sectors in Indonesia, such as retail, electronics, and property which continue to grow every year.

"The issue of purchasing power affecting car sales, I think may not be very valid. I feel that the decline in car sales is driven by people's doubts," he quoted Antara as saying.

According to him, the Indonesian people are in the 'wait and see' phase of developing car technology in the future.

In addition, the government is currently intensifying the use of electric vehicles which are considered to be the main road for reducing emissions in the transportation sector according to the Paris Agreement.

In fact, according to him, Indonesia has various alternative types of cars to reduce emissions and increase people's confidence.

"If we only look at the car, the electric car is a thumbs up car. Because it doesn't emit emissions," he said. Like low cost green car (LCGC), ethanol (flexy), hybrid, and hydrogen.

Furthermore, the President Director of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) Nandy Julyanto stated that his party is currently using a multi-pathway approach so that people have a vehicle purchase preference.

"In the multi-path approach, it is very important, where we provide various vehicle options that suit consumer needs. From electric vehicles, hybrids, to hydrogen-based vehicles. So that people can choose the appropriate reference for each," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Eniya Listiani, said the government supports the efforts made by the company in the automotive sector.

This is expected to encourage the development of an automotive industry ecosystem that maximizes its potential in the country.

"Indeed, in our transportation sector, we can use various sources. It was introduced from fossil sources before, then low-carbon fossils, then there is a combination with batteries, there is a hybrid, then there may be potential for ethanol, then biodiesel, and next there will be hydrogen," said Eniya.
