The Detonator Industry In Kutai Kartanegara Potentially Becomes A Regional Economic Driver

JAKARTA - The detonator industry operating in Muara Badak District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency (Kukar), East Kalimantan is a business sector that is believed to be capable of being one of the driving wheels of the regional economy.

"Moreover, the operation of this industry has absorbed 130 workers, most of whom or almost 90 percent are local workers, both from Kukar, Samarinda, Bontang, and Balikpapan, so that the local economy will grow," said the Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Kutai Kartanegara Regency (Kukar), East Kalimantan, Sunggono quoting Antara.

Factory development is a strategic step to meet the needs of the national mining industry as well as reduce import dependence.

The Kukar Regency Government, he said, would like to thank investors who have believed in Muara Badak District, so that this region is an important part of the detonator industry because the investment invested in the industry is not small.

Sunggono also highlighted the large involvement of local workers in factory operations, namely factory workers are local residents so that local residents are expected to support the existence of this factory so that it can become a driving force for the regional economy.

"Hopefully this factory will continue to grow. If there are investment constraints in Kukar, report it to me. We are ready to support so that investment can run smoothly to improve the economy of the surrounding community," he said.

He also advised that synergies with relevant stakeholders continue to be strengthened, this is considered important to ensure that companies can operate optimally and have a positive and broad impact for both local residents and to increase local government income.

The detonator industry was inaugurated on Wednesday (12/2/2025) in Muara Badak Ulu Village, Muara Badak District, by a company called PT Trifita Deto Muara Badak (TDMB).

President Director of PT TDMB Hery Kusnanto said, this factory stands on an area of 25 hectares, has a main building in the 5 hectare area, while the rest is designated as a safe zone according to government regulations.

"The need for our detonators is still imported, therefore with the factory here, mining companies that need explosives need no more imports. Why is the choice of factories in East Kalimantan, this is because most of the detonators are here," said Kusnanto.

He explained that the construction of the PT TDMB factory in Muara Badak cost around Rp. 200 billion and has absorbed 130 workers, with nearly 90 percent being workers from Kukar and its surroundings.

"The investment value we have reported is almost Rp. 200 billion, but this is still ongoing, a value of that size is not a target, but its needs. Meanwhile, only 5 hectares of factories are built. In addition, this company also partners with local entrepreneurs to provide services such as catering, garden maintenance, and transportation," he said.
