Acting (Plt) Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said the rice imports came from five countries, namely Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Pakistan, and India.
"Imports of rice throughout 2024 are 4.52 million tons, and if we pay attention to the main country of origin for rice imports, the origin is predominantly from Thailand or around 30.19 percent with a total of 1.36 million tons," he said at a press conference, Wednesday, January 15.
Amalia said the total import of rice from Thailand was valued at 862 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp. 14.07 trillion.
Furthermore, Amalia said the second most imported country was Vietnam. He said the total reached 1.25 million tons with a portion of 27.62 percent.
"Next is from Myanmar as much as 831.38 thousand tons or 18.40 percent," he said.
Then, continued Amalia, the country from which Indonesia imported rice was Pakistan. The total is 803.84 thousand tons.
"And the fifth is from India 246.59 thousand tons," he said.
