Angkasa Pura II Assesses Data Center Development at Soekarno Hatta Airport

JAKARTA - PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) through PT Angkasa Pura Sarana Digital (APSD) is studying the construction of data center infrastructure at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Cengkareng, Banten.

AP II President Director, Muhammad Awaluddin, said that several major airports in the world already have data center infrastructure.

"Airports in other countries have developed data centers to ensure the operational reliability of technology and information for all airport stakeholders, and minimize potential IT-related disruptions at an airport", Awaluddin said in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, November 30.

Awaluddin said that AP II saw what global best practices were like in developing data centers at airports, such as Dubai International Airport, Istanbul International Airport, Beijing Daxing International Airport, and Fukuoka Airport.

He hopes that Soekarno-Hatta Airport will have a smart infrastructure, one of which is a data center that can compete with other large airports.

Awaluddin further said that data center development must also consider various aspects including capital expenditure and the intended market. Is the data center only intended to serve stakeholders at the airport or can it also be for other parties?

"What is clear, the prospects in the data industry will be very large going forward. AP II has Angkasa Pura Sarana Digital which is expected to be a key player in supporting digital transformation at airports and achieving potential data center markets", he said.

The data center infrastructure itself is a facility for storing, processing, and at the same time ensuring data security.

Meanwhile, APSD Managing Director, Ferdian Agustiana, said that the development of data center infrastructure at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is currently a serious plan.

"Airports as public spaces must also utilize digital media to help improve service quality. We see the presence of a data center as the right solution for meeting digital needs in public spaces and strengthening the implementation of smart airports", said Ferdian Agustiana.

Ferdian said that Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is expected to become a role model in the realization of smart airports which is strengthened by the existence of data center infrastructure.

Currently, the exact location has been mapped for the construction of a data center within the Soekarno-Hatta Airport area.

Meanwhile, Special Staff to the Minister of Communication and Informatics, Ahmad M. Ramli, said that the prospects for the data center business are estimated to grow by an average of around 20 percent per year.

"From references and practice in the field, the average growth is around 20 percent per year", said Ahmad M. Ramli.

He said data center providers must pay attention to 6 things, namely the quality of service, data protection, security, capacity, efficiency, and compliance with regulations.
