Bye Inflation! Only 'Sejengkal' From Jakarta, This City In Fact Alami Deflasi

JAKARTA The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that there were a number of cities in Indonesia that did not experience inflation in October 2022. In fact, some of them even recorded deflation.

Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, BPS Setianto, revealed that of the 90 cities that were survey samples, 61 cities experienced deflation.

"On the island of Java, the deepest deflation is in Cilegon City with minus 0.26 percent (monthly or month to month/mtm)," he said when giving a statement to reporters on Tuesday, November 1.

Then, Setianto also said that the lowest deflation rate in Indonesia occurred in Gunungsitoli City, North Sumatra, which posted minus 1.48 percent.

"The largest deflation throughout Indonesia occurred due to red chilies which contributed 1.19 percent, 0.20 percent cayenne pepper, 0.08 percent chicken meat, and cooking oil contributed 0.03 percent," he said.

Setianto added that the deflation rate month to month for the October 2022 period was 0.11 percent. Meanwhile, in terms of inflation, the highest achievement is in Manokwari City with 0.76 percent mtm.

On this occasion, he also said that the general inflation rate or based on the consumer price index (CP) last month was 5.71 percent year on year (yoy). This level tends to be more controlled than September, which is perched at 5.95 percent.

Meanwhile, the largest contributors to inflation came from several commodities, including food and beverages, clothing and footwear, housing, water, electricity, and health.
