JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released the results of the 2022 national rice reserve survey (SCBN) which showed data on rice reserves until June 2022 reaching 9.71 million tons spread across various places.

"Based on the survey results, the national rice stock for the period of March 31, 2022, reached 9.11 million tons of rice. Then on April 30, 2022, it increased by 10.15 million tons, and the stock in June 2022 to 9.71 million tons," said the Deputy for Production Statistics BPS M Habibullah quoted from Antara, Monday, August 8.

Habibullah said the rice stock in June 2022 was mostly in household institutions which reached 6.6 million tons, then 1.04 million tons in traders, 1.11 million tons in Bulog warehouses, 0.69 million tons in mills, and in hotels, restaurants, catering (horeka), and industry by 0.28 million tons.

"In general, the average stock of rice in all institutions tends to increase in the period of April 30, 2022, compared to the period of March 31, 2022," he said.

Habibullah said that the average rice stock in producer households reached approximately 390 kg to 443 kg per producer household, or higher than the average rice stock in consumer households which was only 9 to 10 kilograms per consumer household.

"The results of the 2022 SCBN have confirmed the position of the rice surplus for the period 2019 to June 2022 using the BPS Area Sample Framework (KSA). Our rice stock is sufficient and will continue to grow along with the monthly harvest until the end of December 2022," he said.

This survey, said Habibullah, also equalizes data across ministries and institutions so that the national rice stock data can be used as a basis for making decisions.

"We conducted this survey in June 2022 which was held in 34 provinces covering 490 districts/cities with a total sample of 47,817 samples consisting of 14,100 household samples and 33,717 non-household samples involving 1,900 officers as enumerators," he said.

The Director General of Food Crops at the Ministry of Agriculture, Suwandi, said that this data survey was important to determine future production strengthening programs, especially in the midst of the threat of a global crisis.

"I and the staff of the service are constantly being challenged, where there are two things after 2019 until today, there is no general rice import. Then, the production of BPS KSA data always increases from year to year and shows a surplus. But I added another task that must be realized together "Together, productivity must increase, even higher than it is now," he said.

Suwandi hopes that the collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture and BPS can continue to be improved so that the data can be used by all parties to make decisions and have a complete picture of the condition of national rice.

National rice production in 2019 reached 31.31 million tons, increased in 2020 to 31.36 million tons and in 2021 by 31.33 million tons.

On the other hand, agricultural exports from year to year also increased, followed by increases in NTP and NTUP.
