JAKARTA - PT PGN LNG Indonesia (PLI) has tested the Diesel Dual Fuel (DDF) system on a power plant owned by PT KAI (Persero).

DDF dynamic trials were carried out on the Dharmawangsa generator train on the Jakarta-Surabaya route.

PLI President Director Nofrizal revealed that trials were also carried out to obtain the substitution value of fuel oil (BBM) for the type of diesel or the amount of gas used in the DDF system.

"The dynamic test was successfully carried out. The cumulative efficiency obtained in the DDF system was 37 percent. Meanwhile, the efficiency for the existing Diesel Engine Generator (DEG) system was 35 percent," said Nofrizal in his statement, Monday, July 4.

He explained, in terms of gas substitution with an average load of 22 percent, the dynamic test can provide substitution of about 43 percent of the existing fuel.

"The converted train has a power capacity of 500 kVA. Based on the data we obtained, if the load is 100 percent, the fuel consumption on DEG can reach 110 liters per hour," he said.

This system is the simplest DDF system, does not need to make major modifications to the diesel engine and is easier to restore to the original engine.

In addition, it can be adjusted according to the settings on the DEG engine section belonging to KAI.

"All trials can be carried out properly and can be accepted by PT KAI. It is hoped that it will run according to the target, namely encouraging efficiency at PT KAI. Because the fuel subsidy is quite large, considering the continued increase in fuel prices at the global level. BBG," explained Nofrizal.

The LNG to be used comes from the Jambaran Tiung Biru Project, East Java LNG Terminal, or other sources that can be used and support LNG utilization for trains.

"From the trial, we got an overview of the operation of the DDF system and the results show that LNG has the opportunity to be used as fuel for train generation. Equally important, it supports PGN's role in developing new business potential in this infrastructure sector by providing natural gas energy for land transportation. ," concluded Nofrizal.
