JAKARTA - SOE Minister Erick Thohir warned Garuda Indonesia's Board of Directors in making business improvements after the decision on the Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations (PKPU).

Erick wants the procurement of aircraft to be carried out in a good process.

As is known, the alleged corruption case in the procurement of the CRJ-1000 and ATR 72-600 aircraft involved the directors of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk.

In fact, the Indonesian Attorney General's Office has named former President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk Emirsyah Satar as a suspect.

"But it shouldn't happen again without a good business process. Good business processes must be the foundation for healthy state-owned companies," said Erick at the Indonesian Attorney General's Office Building, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Monday, June 27.

The state-owned airline Garuda Indonesia has just obtained a homologation or peace agreement with creditors.

The peace agreement is related to a debt restructuring proposal worth Rp. 142 trillion which was processed through the Suspension of Debt Payment Obligations (PKPU).

Erick said that Garuda's success in winning PKPU was the result of the hard work of many parties, so that it was able to produce the best decisions.

He also appreciated the majority of Garuda Indonesia's creditors who agreed to the peace proposal. One of them is supported by audits conducted transparently by various related parties.

"That this settlement is concrete is not half-assed, because in making improvements to a company, especially SOEs that must be healthy and also our part is to intervene in the market, such as ticket prices, which are expensive today, this is a balance," he said.

Previously, it was reported that the Attorney General's Office had named two new suspects in the alleged corruption case in the procurement of aircraft by PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. One of them is the former President Director of PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk Emirsyah Satar.

The Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia, Sanitiar Burhanuddin, said that the determination of the two new suspects was a follow-up to the previous investigation into the alleged corruption case of PT Garuda Indonesia.

Burhanuddin said that the Attorney General's Office also received the submission of the results of an audit of state losses conducted by BPKP.

Where the results show PT Garuda Indonesia suffered a loss of Rp. 8.8 trillion.

"Monday, June 27, 2022, as a result of our exposure, we identified two new suspects, namely ES as the President Director of PT Garuda, the second being SS as the Director of PT Mugi Rekso Abadi," said Burhanuddin.

For your information, in this case, the Attorney General's Office has previously named three suspects.

They are Captain Agus Wahjudo as Executive Project Manager of Aircraft Delivery Garuda for the 2009-2014 period.

Then, Vice President Strategic Management Office Pre-period 2009-2014 Setijo Awibowo, and Vice President Treasury Management Garuda for the period 2005-2012 Albert Burhan.

The total loss to the state due to corruption is estimated at Rp. 8.8 trillion.

This loss is claimed to have been caused by the procurement process for the CRJ-1000 aircraft and the takeover of the ATR 72-600 aircraft which were not carried out in accordance with fleet management procedures and SOE procurement principles and business judgment rules.
