JAKARTA - The Jakarta-Surabaya semi-fast train project became one of the discussions when the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi made a working visit to Japan last Wednesday. The concept of the Jakarta-Surabaya Semi-Fast Train has also been discussed.

Budi explained that the Ministry of Transportation is currently finalizing the concept and will continue with a feasibility study (FS).

"The feasibility study means that we will carefully measure how the field conditions are and how the alignment will be carried out," Budi said in a virtual press conference, quoted on Thursday, June 23.

For your information, if the project runs smoothly, it is estimated that Jakarta-Surabaya can be reached in less than 6 hours. This is a hope that can provide an alternative for people to use this mode of transportation.

"When we talk about the cost, we will know for sure when the FS is finished," said Budi.

Budi assessed that the Jakarta-Surabaya Semi-Fast Train project could be one of the efforts to realign the existing line. The intention is to create a path that is flatter and trajectories that do not bend.

"So practically it's more straight from Jakarta to Surabaya," he said

In the Jakarta-Surabaya Semi-Fast Train project, Budi said, it is planned to build an elevated track in certain cities, such as in Cirebon and Pekalongan. This can be one of the efforts to overcome the trajectory of the plot.

"It is recorded that there are almost 800 plots of track from Jakarta to Surabaya that we have to complete," he explained.

The Jakarta-Surabaya Semi-Fast Train project is planned to be built in two stages. Budi said, the first phase of the Jakarta-Semarang construction will be carried out. Then, the second stage is the construction of Semarang-Surabaya.

"Regarding time, we will finalize the FS in 1 or 2 years. FS means that we will carry out detailed realignment on the train itself and the execution time, and the implementation time (FS) is 2 to 4 years," he said.
