JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN continues to achieve positive performance from selling green energy to consumers. Recently, PLN has provided a new renewable energy certificate (EBT) or Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) to data center company PT Ekagrata Data Gemilang which has used 404 Megawatt hour (MWh) of electricity from green energy.

"This means that we participate in carrying out sustainable development, technology-based business development that still prioritizes environmental sustainability," he said in an official statement quoted on Sunday, May 15.

According to Doddy, his party gives appreciation to data center companies that have used green energy through REC from PLN. "In 2022, PLN Jakarta Raya has supplied 9,231 REC units or the equivalent of 9,231 MWh electricity as our commitment to support the government's carbon-neutral 2060 program," he said.

For information, REC is a joint product of PLN and the Clean Energy Investment Accelerator (CEIA), which is proof of ownership of an international standard certificate for the production of electricity generated from renewable energy plants.

“This REC from PLN uses an electronic tracking system from APX TIGRs located in California, United States to ensure that once the certificate is issued, it cannot be bought or sold to other parties. The entire process has also been verified to meet international standards,” he explained.

Furthermore, Doddy said that currently, the data center business is growing rapidly in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta.

The increasing use of online-based applications and other digital platforms makes Jakarta a prospective place to do data center business.

He also projects that throughout this year there will be an additional installation of new electricity for data centers with a total power of 300 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) and will continue to grow.

"In terms of power supply, we are ready, because the power supply in Jakarta is around 8,000 Megawatts, while the highest peak load ever achieved is 5,300 Megawatts, meaning that there is still a power reserve of 2,700 Megawatts," he explained.

Doddy ensures that PLN also provides premium electricity with a reliable multi-source supply to support electricity reliability for data centers with the Automatic Change Over (ACO) system. So, he continued, if the main power source experienced a disturbance, it would immediately be transferred to a backup power source.

Moreover, PLN is also ready to provide Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) for electricity without flickering. "Customers like this data center need reliable electricity even without flickering, we have UPS as a solution," concluded Doddy.
