JAKARTA - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) will work with entrepreneurs and corporations in Indonesia to participate in the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Chairman of the Standing Committee on New and Renewable Energy from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), Muhammad Yusrizki, revealed that his party had launched a subnational movement through a platform called KADIN Net Zero Hub.

“We want to turn it into real action through collaboration with various private companies. We also collaborate with several organizations that have met international standards to create guides, modules, and programs to improve the understanding of private companies," he said in a written statement received by VOI, Wednesday, March 23.

He continued, this effort is important to build Indonesia's net zero-emission ecosystem and assist the government's efforts to achieve the net-zero emission target. Quoting Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Yusrizki said that climate change is a global challenge whose impact is as big as the COVID-19 pandemic.

The issue of climate change has also been absorbed in the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN 2020-2024).

Yusrizki explained that the main challenge faced to achieve net-zero emissions is the mindset that should exist in every community. Therefore, the function of KADIN is to build public awareness and form a mindset to start implementing sustainable business for corporate companies.

"With that, KADIN can provide education related to energy efficiency and make it a company commitment to be applied personally in everyday life," he continued.

In his presentation, he also hoped that business actors would not only claim or label themselves as companies that support the energy transition without taking real action.

"Kadin will create a module to build a planning, financial, and supervisory ecosystem in implementing the energy transition in private companies," he concluded.
