JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said electric cars from Indonesia will appear in the next 2-3 years or 2023-2024, because domestic nickel downstream which produces battery cathodes, stainless steel and lithium batteries will be carried out.

"Ladies and gentlemen, you can see, in three years, 2-3 years, electric cars will emerge from our country," said President Jokowi in his briefing to the participants of the PPRA LXII and PPSA XXIII 2021 National Resilience Institutions at the State Palace, Jakarta, reported by Antara, Wednesday, October 13.

President Jokowi said he had ordered no more exports of nickel in raw form. Nickel is a raw material commodity that can be processed into battery cathodes, stainless steel and lithium batteries, which are important components in the structure of the automotive industry, including the manufacture of electric cars.

The President stressed that Indonesia should not lose the opportunity to get added value from nickel, including from other natural resources such as bauxite and copper.

"Don't export nickel in the form of raw material anymore. Stop exporting raw materials," said President Jokowi.

According to the President, the nickel industry will be integrated with the domestic automotive industry. The cross-industry integration will also take advantage of the new momentum in the world automotive industry, namely the development of electric cars.

"It will be integrated with the automotive industry that we have because of the opportunities that exist in the future for electric cars. Don't lose any more opportunities, don't export nickel in raw materials anymore," said President Jokowi.

All Indonesian natural resource commodities, said the President, must undergo a downstream process to generate added value.

The President will ask SOEs and the private sector, as well as investors who will enter the country to establish industries in Indonesia, not just take raw natural resources.

"Whether it's SOE cooperation with the outside private sector, or the private sector itself (domestic), but what is clear is that the added value is in the country," said President Jokowi. automotive sector.
