JAKARTA - PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk. (BRI) urges the public to be more careful in carrying out cyber surfing activities because currently fraud or misuse of information claiming to be from banking institutions is rife.

BRI Corporate Secretary Aestika Oryza Gunarto said the security of personal data and customer data is the company's main concern, especially in the midst of the rapid flow of digitalization.

"BRI urges customers not to provide personal data or banking data requested by irresponsible parties through fake websites or links on behalf of certain agencies," he said in an official statement, quoted Thursday, September 30.

Aestika herself explained that the company always uses official channels to communicate various information and banking programs.

"To maintain the confidentiality of customer data, BRI has a data privacy program that is able to protect customer data from data theft by fraudsters in cyberspace," he said.

Aestika also urges customers to be more careful and not easily trust the links received via networked messages.

"Make sure the news is correct, make sure the information is obtained from the official banking website, and do not provide personal or banking data information such as account numbers, card numbers, PINs, internet banking users and passwords, OTP, and so on," he explained.

Aestika added, in order to tackle the potential for cyber crime, her party will always take measured steps with the authorities, including blocking suspicious websites containing false information, as well as investigating the perpetrators, creators and spreaders of these fake websites.

"We ask the public to always be aware of all forms of fraud and banking crimes committed by irresponsible parties," he said.
