JAKARTA - PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) in collaboration with PT Manage Mina Laut (KML) is developing a reefer container or refrigerated container business. This is done in order to further encourage the increase in the yield of marine and fishery products. This reefer container product has entered the prototype trial stage in Madiun.

Reefer container is a type of container equipped with a cooling system. Its function is to preserve or cool the temperature of the product in it, such as fish.

The prototype reefer container made by INKA and KML has three capacities, namely 1 tonne and 2 tonne capacity, and 5 tonne. In addition to helping the fishing industry, the manufacture of reefer containers is one of the government's efforts to establish a cold chain system-based industry for Indonesian marine and fishery products.

Assistant Deputy (Asdep) for Downstream Maritime Resources Amalyos Chan stated that the reefer container has been tested and is functioning properly.

"This is the result of a collaboration between PT Industri Kereta Api (PT INKA) and PT Manage Mina Laut (PT KML). With this success, we need to continue to oversee and encourage scale-up towards mass production," he said in a written statement. , Friday, September 24.

Meanwhile, General Manager of PT INKA Junaidi stated that the manufacture of reefer containers contains local content that has also been adjusted to the TKDN provisions of the Ministry of Industry.

"This reefer container contains 71 percent local content. With this, the production of this reefer container is able to contribute to the incessant movement of pride made in Indonesia," he said.

Reefer containers are one way to increase the production of fishery and marine products. With the reefer container, marine products from the fresh capture fisheries sector are able to maintain their quality until they reach the destination country when they are exported or when they are sent to each region in Indonesia.

The use of domestically made reefer containers has the support of various associations engaged in marine and fisheries in Indonesia, and one of them is the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Cooling Chain Association (ARPI) Hasanuddin Yasni.

"Storage places for marine and fishery products in the form of reefer containers will greatly help increase the downstreaming of the Indonesian marine and fisheries industry. We will apply these reefer containers later for our fishermen, so that the quality and quality of their catch products can be more competitive," he said.

For your information, containers play an important role in Indonesia's export performance. But unfortunately, currently Indonesia's export performance is still overshadowed by the scarcity of containers.
