Gas Production of Limau Well Jumps Sixfold from Target After Work Over

JAKARTA - The rig owned by PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia through Rig PDSI#34.1 with a capacity of 350 HP, the workover work on L5A-309 well in the Limau Field, South Sumatra, was successfully completed faster than planned and produced six times the gas production target.

The President Director of Pertamina Drilling Avep Disasmita explained that the workover work carried out to support PT Pertamina EP (PEP) Zone 4 operations started on June 29, 2026 and was successfully completed on July 4, 2026.

"With completion in just five days, the PDSI#34.1 rig recorded a time efficiency of up to 50 percent compared to the initial plan of 10 days," he said, July 10.

In this work, he continued, the team carried out a production layer displacement by installing a plug to isolate the TAF-W4 layer, then carried out perforation on the TAF-W3 layer at an interval of 1,594-1,600.5 meters measured depth (mMD).

This strategy is applied to optimize the potential of reservoirs that have not been optimally utilized.

As a result, based on the production test on July 6, 2026, the L5A-309 well was able to produce gas of 4.8 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), far exceeding the initial target of 0.8 MMSCFD.

The well can also be immediately operated or Put on Production (PoP) after the work is completed.

In addition to recording a significant increase in production, the implementation of the work also showed cost efficiency.

"The total cost of the workover was realized at around 67.8 percent of the budget that had been prepared," explained Avep.

Before the workover, L5A-309 produced oil from the TAF-W4 layer at intervals of 1,619-1,622 mMD using an Electric Submersible Pump (ESP). However, oil production only reached 2.6 barrels per day (BOPD) with a water content (water cut) of 98 percent.

This condition encourages the closure of the old layer and the transfer of production to a new layer that has proven to have greater gas potential.

The success of Rig PDSI#34.1 in completing the work faster, more efficiently, and producing production that exceeds the target is proof of Pertamina Drilling's capabilities in supporting the success of national upstream oil and gas operations.
