PU Ministry Applies Three Shifts to Complete People's Schools Simultaneously in June

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo targets the construction of the second phase of the People's School (SR) in 93 locations to be completed and functional in June 2026 to support the new school year in July 2026.

In order to pursue this target, the PU Ministry implements a three-shift work system for construction workers in the field.

This was conveyed by Dody after attending a Coordination Meeting (Rakor) related to SR with the Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf in Jakarta, Tuesday, May 26.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) and the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi).

The meeting was held to strengthen the acceleration of the development of SR as a priority program of the government in improving access to education as well as supporting poverty alleviation.

As of May 25, 2026, the average physical progress of the SR construction at 93 locations has reached 62.63 percent with a financial progress of 41.76 percent.

"After checking the overall readiness of the land and others, God willing, we target to complete by June 2026. We will continue to pursue so that these 93 points can be fully functional to support the new school year in July 2026," said Dody as quoted from a written statement, Wednesday, May 27.

To accelerate the completion of the project, the Ministry of PU has formed a Task Force for the Acceleration of the Development of People's Schools and implemented a three-shift work system. In addition, innovations in construction methods and strengthening cross-sector coordination have been carried out.

As of May 25, 2026, the construction of the SR has absorbed as many as 71,579 workers.

Dody said that his party had coordinated with Danantara and Himbara banks to help construction service providers who had cash flow problems.

"For service providers who experience cash flow constraints, we have coordinated with Danantara so that they can be assisted by the Himbara banking. In terms of manpower, we will involve the support of Zeni TNI as we have done in SR in North Lombok, at points where progress is delayed so that the target for completion can still be pursued," he said.

In the meeting, it was also discussed to strengthen digital learning infrastructure through cooperation between the Ministry of PU, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Komdigi.

The support includes the provision of internet networks and telecommunications infrastructure, including plans to install a fiber optic network at the SR stage II location.
