JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism stated that it would take action against 1,600 unlicensed accommodations from online travel agency (OTA) platforms by August 2026.
"The number of all the processes we have done with the filling of forms, we have listed about 1,600 business actors who are not licensed, which are marketed to OTA. So, we already have the data, it has been verified," said Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana in a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Widiyanti explained that this step was taken by the Ministry of Tourism in order to regulate accommodations in Indonesia and realize a fair, competitive, and sustainable tourism industry.
However, owners of accommodations that have not been licensed or have not registered their business can still take care of renewing business permits by the deadline of August 1, 2026.
Because as of June 2, 2026, the Ministry of Tourism will send a notification through OTA regarding the list of accommodations that will be delisted and it is expected that OTA will convey this information to the accommodation actors or hosts/merchants one month before the delisting is carried out.
"They were given 2 months and if they cannot process their new permit within 2 months, and they are forced to be delisted starting August 1, 2026," said Widiyanti.
Widiyanti said that during this period, the owners of the accommodation will be given training, information briefing, and coaching clinics to get open consultations.
"So we don't just close it, we are quite collaborative," he added.
Meanwhile, for those who have booked related accommodation services, they are asked to re-confirm the accommodation permit, because the cancellation of services must be adjusted to the policies of each OTA which are different.
"That will have to be asked to each OTA. They have their own tusi. But we have also conveyed to the OTA for new merchants who apply to be marketed must start today to provide their NIB numbers, KBLI, so they can't on board new business actors who are not licensed anymore, so starting today. So the number of those who are currently cut off, so that there are no more unlicensed ones," he said.
He also conveyed that the regulation was not intended to limit or hinder the activities of business actors in the tourism sector, but because the Ministry of Tourism prioritized the interests of the sector in the long term.
Through this arrangement, it is hoped that it will protect consumer rights and satisfaction, create a healthier and organized business governance, and become a good practice model for other sectors.
Later, all licensing data will be integrated into a verification system based on an Application Programming Interface (API) to fill in three main data, namely the Business Registration Number (NIB), the Indonesian Business Field Classification (KBLI), and the Business Activity Number (NKU).
The API itself is planned to be launched in June 2027. All data will then be used by OTA and the Ministry of Tourism which is integrated with the Online Single Submission (OSS) system to carry out the verification of the Business Permit automatically.
Acting Deputy for Industry and Investment at the Ministry of Tourism, Rizki Handayani Mustafa, added that in its supervision, the Ministry of Tourism encourages the market and tourists to start carefully choosing accommodations that already have NIB, NKU and are in accordance with the KBLI.
The Ministry of Tourism also cooperates well with the local government to implement this policy and holds data related to accommodations that have registered their business permits.
"We convey this to the local government, so that they can hold data and they can also carry out direct supervision," said Rizki.
