JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo emphasized that the construction of the sabo dam on the Aek Tukka River, North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, was a strategic step for the government to reduce the risk of flooding and sedimentation disasters in the region.
The construction of the sabo dam on the Aek Tukka River, Central Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, is targeted to be completed in October 2026. This was confirmed by Minister PU Dody Hanggodo when he directly reviewed the progress of the sabo dam construction in the area today.
Dody emphasized that the construction of the sabo dam was a strategic step to hold sediment material, rocks, wood and soil from the upstream area so that it would not be carried to the residents' settlements during high rainfall intensity.
"The foot is optimistic that all work can be completed according to the target in October 2026," said Dody in a written statement, Saturday, May 23.
According to Dody, the main challenge of the sabo dam construction lies in land settlement and extreme weather conditions that are still occurring in the field.
Even so, the PU Ministry together with all stakeholders continues to accelerate the handling so that the benefits can be felt immediately by the community.
"All stakeholders are involved, from the center, province to district. Indeed, we are racing with nature, but we must be optimistic that we can provide maximum results for the community," he said.

The scope of his work includes the construction of dam sabotage structures, retaining walls, flood control embankments to river normalization.
In the Tukka River flood control work, the current land work progress includes excavations along 300 meters. The work is supported by heavy equipment in the form of long arm excavators, standard excavators, vibro rollers, dump trucks and self-loader mixers.
Until the 11th week of implementation, the physical progress of the sabo dam construction has reached 7.1 percent or higher than the planned progress of 3.8 percent.
Meanwhile, the construction of the Anak Tukka River (Sigala-Gala River) sediment control has reached 7.9 percent and the construction of the Tukka River flood control infrastructure is 7.8 percent.
