JAKARTA - The Head of the North Java Beach Management Authority (BOPPJ) and Deputy Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (Wamen KP) Didit H Ashaf revealed that the construction of the Giant Sea Wall (GSW) on the North Coast (Pantura) of Java will reach a length of around 575 kilometers, divided into 15 segments so that the work can be carried out in parallel.
This was conveyed by Didit in the Kick-Off Meeting of the Integrated Coastal Protection Infrastructure of the Pantura Java in Jakarta, Monday, May 4.
"The construction itself is approximately 575 kilometers in the Pantura of Java, not small or not short, this length. We divide it into 15 segments, which can use parallel construction activities," said Didit.
Didit said the preparation of the program involved various parties, including universities and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
According to him, coordination related to the technology to be used has been carried out for more than six months.
"For technology, we are assisted by BRIN. We have been talking for more than six months about how technology is used, some use it from Indonesia itself or from abroad, so we combine (combine) here," he said.
He added that infrastructure development and planning programs will run simultaneously through the stages of groundbreaking programs and groundbreaking infrastructure.
In addition, the implementation of the project will also involve local governments, ranging from the district/city level to the province.
"We also carry out planning activities for groundbreaking programs and infrastructure so that they run together, which at the time of implementation of these activities is carried out in cooperation with the local government," explained Didit.
Didit also said that the involvement of ministries and agencies (k/l) in the program was quite large.
Based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 77 of 2025 concerning BOPPJ which has been issued, there are approximately 23 k/l involved in the Pantura Java coastal protection project.
"From the Presidential Decree that came out, there are about 23 k/l that we are involved in, including the MoU we signed with BRIN and the Ministry of Cooperatives, Industry, and Trade," he said.
Didit added that the construction of the 575-kilometer sea embankment will later be adjusted to a thematic approach and not entirely using a grey solution or concrete infrastructure approach alone.
In the future, BOPPJ will continue to carry out planning activities according to the tupoksi.
So the planning of development and management is in cooperation with the local government (Pemda).
"Of course in this Java Pantura, it's not just factories, not just offices, but there is life there. There is an ecosystem and ecology. Well, the most ecosystem is fishermen," he explained.
Thus, it will later be combined by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), the Ministry of Villages (Kemendes), the Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) and many other activities that will be combined with related k/l.
