JAKARTA - PT Bank Mega Tbk supports the implementation of the QRIS Inter-State payment system which can now be used in China to facilitate cross-border transactions.

Bank Mega President Director Kostaman Thayib said the expansion of the use of QRIS Antarnegara is expected to increase the ease of transactions for customers who are active abroad.

"With QRIS Antarnegara, customers can transact in a practical, easy, safe, and convenient way when they are abroad without having to carry cash in the local currency," said Kostaman based on his statement, in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Saturday, May 2.

The launch of this feature is part of the cooperation between Bank Indonesia (BI), Payment Service Providers (PJP), and Payment System Infrastructure Providers (PIP) with the authorities and payment system operators in partner countries.

Cross-border QRIS is a cross-border digital payment system based on the Cross-border QR Payments Linkage QR code which allows transactions to be carried out through scanning a QR code in a partner country.

Previously, the implementation of QRIS Antarnegara has been connected with a number of countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea.

The expansion to China on April 30, 2026 was carried out as part of strengthening the national digital payment ecosystem and integrating global payment systems.

The presence of this feature is considered relevant considering that China is one of the world's economic centers with a high level of digital payment adoption.

With this service, Kostaman explained that customers can now make payments at merchants in China directly through the application without having to exchange currencies.

In addition to facilitating transactions for tourists, the cross-border payment system is also expected to support trade activities and expand market access for business actors.

He said his party would continue to innovate in the development of digital financial services to increase customer transaction convenience and efficiency.

"Bank Mega is grateful to continue to be part of the first mover member banks in the implementation of QRIS Antarnegara," he said.
