JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Oil and Gas (Ditjen Migas) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has finalized the discussion of a laboratory test with fuel producer Bobibos, PT Inti Sinergi Formula.

"This summons is a follow-up to the initial meeting on April 14, to mature the laboratory testing plan and ensure the standardization and classification of products before being marketed or widely used," said Director of Oil and Gas Engineering and Environment Noor Arifin Muhammad, quoted by Antara.

Noor asked the Bobibos party to immediately conduct the necessary tests to determine the position of this product, whether it falls into the BBN (biofuel) or BBM (fuel oil) category.

"In detail, the technical testing will be carried out entirely by Lemigas. We ask Bobibos to proactively follow up on these technical steps so that the process is accountable," said Noor.

Separately, Bobibos M Iklas Thamrin's founder said the testing process would be comprehensive and tiered. For the initial stage, it was carried out by the National Oil and Gas Testing Center (Lemigas).

Iklas explained that the Lemigas laboratory test will determine the characteristics of the fuel, before entering the next testing phase.

"In the initial phase, testing will cover various important aspects, such as physical and chemical properties, stability, compatibility with the engine, ease of flow, ignition quality, to the level of corrosion," said Iklas.

In addition, testing also includes fuel performance, including exhaust gas emission tests, engine durability, combustion deposit formation, and engine component assessment.

In the initial process, Lemigas will take samples of Bobibos from storage tanks at several points, using specially certified containers, accompanied by labeling and inspection reports.

"From here it will be determined that Bobibos belongs to which fuel category, existing or new type, then the parameters will be determined," he said.

After passing the laboratory and test bench tests, the fuel will enter the road test stage. This stage is carried out to simulate the actual conditions of vehicle use, including aspects of vehicle travel and maintenance, as well as being part of the commercialization and socialization of the product.

The results of all the testing series will later become the basis for disseminating research, product industrialization, and technical recommendations for the government in determining energy policies.

At the previous meeting on April 14, 2026, the Directorate General of Oil and Gas welcomed Bobibos' innovation amid the pressure of the global energy crisis.

The initial testing phase carried out by Lemigas starts from sampling according to the international standard ASTM D4057 on the storage tank.

PT Inti Sinergi Formula on this occasion expressed its readiness to coordinate with Lemigas regarding the needs required for the entire testing process in accordance with the provisions. Previously, the Bobibos party had carried out internal identification, but it was found that the Bobibos product specifications did not meet several standard parameters of BBN and BBM in force.

The government in principle welcomes every innovation of the nation's children related to the discovery of fuel that can help strengthen national energy resilience, amid uncertain global conditions. But on the other hand, there are procedures that must be met to provide security guarantees to the public as consumers.

The series of tests that must be carried out must be carried out under supervision and in accordance with standard procedures. This is to protect the public from the risk of machine damage, as well as provide legal certainty as the basis for product complaints if they do not meet the promised standards.

Bobibos is an environmentally friendly fuel made in Indonesia based on rice straw and agricultural waste. Bobibos, short for Original Indonesian Made Fuel, Bos! is claimed to have a high octane value or RON 98.
