JAKARTA - Rapid changes in the world of work are prompting a shift in the way higher education is viewed.

Lectures are no longer just an academic process to earn a degree, but a means of improving competence for workers who want to remain relevant in the midst of industry dynamics.

The phenomenon of students who study while working is now increasingly encountered. In addition to being driven by financial needs, this trend is also influenced by the awareness that work experience and formal education can complement each other.

Students who work are considered to have a different perspective in the learning process. Experience in the workplace allows them to relate the theories learned in class to practices in the field.

Head of the Tangerang Campus of Bina Sarana Informatika University (UBSI), Mochamad Nandi Susila, said that students in the employee class generally have strong learning motivation because they are directly faced with the reality of the world of work.

"Lecture while working is not a hindrance, it actually becomes a process of forming a complete competence between theory and practice. Students in the employee class usually have strong motivation because they learn while facing the reality of the world of work," Nandi said in an official statement, Tuesday (24/3).

According to him, campuses need to adjust the learning method to the needs of students who have worked, including through flexible class schedules and the use of learning technology.

UBSI itself provides an employee class program with a schedule for classes on Friday and Saturday to facilitate workers who want to continue their education without leaving their jobs.

With this approach, higher education is expected to remain relevant in supporting the improvement of human resources capacity in the midst of changing industry needs.
