JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has recorded that the sale of tickets for the 2026 Lebaran Transportation has reached 3,910,868 or 86.9 percent of the total capacity of 4,498,696 seats for the period from March 11 to April 1, 2026.

KAI's Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, said the trend of train travel has continued to increase since mid-March and is now entering the reverse flow phase.

"The trend of traveling by train has continued to increase since mid-March and is now entering the reverse flow phase. People use trains because they are more comfortable and scheduled," Anne said in a written statement, Sunday, March 22.

He said the high ticket sales reflected the increasing public confidence in the train transportation mode.

Of the total sales, long-distance train tickets have been sold as many as 3,433,667 or 96.1 percent of capacity, while local train tickets have been recorded as sold 477,201 or 51.5 percent.

KAI also noted that during the period of the homecoming flow on March 11-21, 2026, the number of customers served reached 2,226,540 people, consisting of 1,888,827 long-distance train passengers and 337,713 local train passengers.

Entering the reverse flow, the occupancy rate of long-distance trains even exceeded 100 percent. On March 22, the temporary occupancy rate was recorded at 137.5 percent.

Anne explained that the figure was possible because one seat could be used by more than one passenger on a trip with different relationships.

"In one trip, one seat can be used by more than one customer according to the relationship, so the number of passengers can exceed the seating capacity," he said.

A number of trains with high booking rates during the Lebaran period include the Airlangga Train, Joglosemarkerto Train, Sri Tanjung Train, Bengawan Train, Kahuripan Train, Rajabasa Train, and Jayakarta Train.

However, KAI stated that there were still about 587,828 seats that could be used by the public, especially by choosing an alternative schedule or route for the return journey.

KAI urges the public to plan their trips early, including considering continuing trips or connecting trains, to avoid congestion.

"With the capacity that is still available, we invite the public to immediately plan the return trip so that it remains comfortable and smooth," said Anne.
