JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto has directed the acceleration of the realization of the conversion of diesel power plants (PLTD) into solar power plants (PLTS) amid high oil prices.

Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, after a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, March 19, conveyed that the step was requested to be immediately calculated and realized.

"Regarding diesel power plants, because now with high oil prices, the President has directed that this be immediately realized and calculated to be converted into solar power plants," said Airlangga in his press statement as quoted by ANTARA.

Airlangga said that in its implementation, the Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI) was tasked with resolving various issues related to the PLTD.

"Andantara was given the task to solve the problems of the PLTD," he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, who also participated in the limited meeting, said there was still a large use in various diesel power plants (PLTD). For this reason, it is encouraged to replace it with a solar power plant (PLTS).

"If it can be replaced, by the President asking for PLTS, which can be replaced immediately. Even the President asked Indonesia to no longer use diesel, because the price is high, the environment is also not good. If it can be replaced with renewable energy, it will be very good," he explained.

It is known that President Prabowo appointed Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia as the Chairman of the Energy Transition Acceleration Task Force.

Minister Bahlil said the government continues to strive to provide comprehensive access to energy for the community.

President Prabowo, in a limited meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, ordered Minister Bahlil to accelerate the implementation of clean and renewable energy, one of which is the provision of solar power plants (PLTS), which will be allocated for schools and villages.

"We have just finished a limited meeting with the President, whose discussion is on the implementation of clean and renewable energy. In it, including its relationship with the 100 gigawatt (GW) program for PLTS, then renewable energy," said Bahlil at the State Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (5/3).

In order to accelerate the realization of this clean and renewable energy transition, President Prabowo formed a task force to accelerate the energy transition by appointing Bahlil as its head.

According to Bahlil, the formation of this task force is in line with the government's efforts to carry out energy transition as well as to reduce subsidies.

"Of course, this orientation is that we can make energy transitions faster, but we can also reduce subsidies. Because by converting from PLTD or diesel to PLTS, it will result in efficiency in electricity subsidies and at the same time we encourage acceleration for the use of electric motors and cars," added Bahlil.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources also encourages the use of PLTS to accelerate electrification on remote islands.

This effort is part of the government's strategic program to increase energy availability and expand access to energy services to difficult-to-reach areas.
