JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Trade (Wamendag) Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri directly reviewed the conditions of prices and strategic food supplies at the Mayestik Market, South Jakarta, to ensure stability ahead of the 1447 Hijriah Eid al-Fitr.
"This morning, ahead of Eid, a few days before Eid, we continue to monitor the prices of basic goods in the field. I am with the Minister (of Trade Budi Santoso), we divide the tasks into several regions. And today I happen to be at Mayestik Market," said DyahRoro as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 17.
During the review, Wamendag was accompanied by the Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilization of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) I Gusti Ketut Astawa, and the Head of the Department of Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises (PPKUKM) DKI Jakarta Province Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo.
He said he found chicken eggs sold at a price in the range of Rp. 32,000 per kilogram (kg), slightly above the reference selling price (HAP) of Rp. 30,000 per kg, after previously being in the range of Rp. 30,000 to Rp. 31,000 per kg.
Traders say eggs are supplied from Central Java and East Java, such as Solo and Blitar.
For chili commodities, the price of curly red chili was found to reach Rp80,000 per kg, while red cayenne pepper touched Rp120,000 per kg, far above the reference price range of Rp40,000 to Rp57,000.
However, there was a price difference between traders, where chili was sold at a lower range of IDR 37,000 to IDR 55,000 per kg on other stalls, indicating a price disparity in the market.
Meanwhile, the price of beef is in the range of Rp. 140,000 per kg for standard quality, while premium quality is sold between Rp. 150,000 to Rp. 160,000 per kg.
Then the price of MinyaKita brand cooking oil is in the range of Rp. 15,700 per liter according to the highest retail price (HET) set by the government and is observed to be stable at the trader level.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Trade has a role in overseeing oil prices through stock and distribution arrangements so that price stability can be maintained at the consumer level.
The government also implemented new rules through the Regulation of the Minister of Trade which requires a minimum of 35 percent of the distribution of MinyaKita commodity food to come from SOEs such as Bulog and ID Food.
The policy aims to strengthen the supervision of distribution and ensure that strategic food supplies can be monitored more intensively by the government to prevent unreasonable price spikes.
The Ministry of Trade also relies on the Market and Basic Needs Monitoring System (SP2KP) to monitor prices daily in 514 regencies and cities as the basis for making policies to control food prices.
Wamendag ensures that the national food supply is safe until after Lebaran and the government will continue to monitor distribution and prices to maintain stability and protect people's purchasing power.
The monitoring was carried out together with the DKI Jakarta Regional Government and the National Food Agency (Bapanas) as a form of cross-sector synergy to maintain the stability of strategic food supply and prices.
"This is leading up to a big day, the demand will automatically be higher, and we know ourselves that there is an impact on prices and so on, stocks and so on. Well, that's what we monitor together," said Dyah Roro.
According to him, the government divided the monitoring task into various regions so that the supervision of prices and distribution of basic commodities can be carried out evenly and sustainably ahead of the religious holiday.
"We also have a (Food) Task Force, so cross-sectoral cooperation to ensure that everything is safe, including those in the regions. So we also entrust it to the regions, please continue to monitor and inform us, so that we can act quickly, when there is a significant price spike," he said.
