JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) stated that as many as 25 provinces experienced an increase in the Price Development Index (IPH) in the second week of March 2026, while 13 other provinces recorded a decline.
BPS Distribution and Services Statistics Deputy Ateng Hartono said the highest IPH increase occurred in DKI Jakarta with an increase of 2.85 percent. The next position was occupied by Gorontalo with 1.78 percent and West Nusa Tenggara with 1.71 percent.
"The increase in IPH also occurred in a number of other provinces such as Banten, Central Java, Yogyakarta, West Sulawesi, East Java, and also North Maluku," said Ateng in the Regional Inflation Control Meeting, quoted by Antara, Monday, March 16.
According to Ateng, the increase in IPH in the period was mainly triggered by the increase in the price of a number of food commodities, especially chili, beef, and broiler eggs. In addition, several regions also recorded price increases in broiler chicken.
BPS also noted that a number of regencies/cities that experienced an increase in IPH increased compared to the previous week.
As of March 13, 2026 or the second week of March, there were 222 regencies/cities that experienced an increase in IPH. This number increased compared to the previous week which was recorded at only 204 regencies/cities.
"Well, there are 10 regencies/cities with the highest IPH increase. The first in South Sulawesi Province, this happened in Barru Regency, namely a change in IPH of 3.91 percent," said Ateng.
He added that the highest increase also occurred in Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh by 3.17 percent, as well as Brebes Regency in Central Java by 3.07 percent.
The increase was also recorded in Bintan Regency, Riau Islands, East Bolaang Mongondow Regency in North Sulawesi, Bone Bolango Regency in Gorontalo, and Kupang Regency in East Nusa Tenggara.
In the DKI Jakarta area, the increase in IPH was recorded in the Thousand Islands Administrative District by 2.85 percent. Meanwhile, in East Java, the increase occurred in Ponorogo Regency and Pasuruan Regency.
However, BPS noted a number of areas that experienced a decrease in IPH. The largest decline was recorded in several areas in West Kalimantan with a decrease of up to 5.66 percent, as well as in several other areas such as North Sumatra and West Papua.
Ateng added that in general, the increase in IPH in various regions is still influenced by fluctuations in the prices of major food commodities, especially chili, broiler chicken, and beef.
