JAKARTA - The price of chicken and beef meat in a number of markets in the East Jakarta (Jaktim) area has started to rise ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026.

One of the chicken traders at Kramat Jati Market, Ahmad (44) said that the increase in chicken prices had started since the beginning of Ramadan and slowly rose before Eid al-Fitr.

"From entering Ramadan there has been an increase, but it is slowly increasing here. Now the price of chicken is around Rp50 thousand per kilogram, previously it was still Rp45 thousand," said Ahmad at Kramat Jati Market, East Jakarta, Thursday, March 12, reported by ANTARA.

According to him, the demand from buyers increased because many residents began to prepare various food needs for breaking the fast and preparing for Eid.

"Buyers are also starting to be crowded, especially if they are approaching Lebaran, they can usually be more crowded," he said.

In addition, price increases are usually influenced by supplies from suppliers that increase along with high market demand.

"If the supply is maintained, the price spike is expected to be controlled," said Ahmad.

Traders estimate that the prices of chicken and beef meat are still potentially rising in the next few weeks until they approach the holidays.

The same thing was said by a beef trader at Jatinegara Market, Jaka (39). Jaka said that the price of beef has started to rise compared to a few days ago, but the increase is still within reasonable limits.

"Now, beef is around Rp. 145 thousand to Rp. 150 thousand per kilogram. Previously it was still Rp. 130-135 thousand. Usually, if it's a week before Eid, it can go up again because of high demand," he said.

Even though prices have risen, he said, buyer interest remains quite high. Many customers buy beef for household needs and culinary businesses ahead of Eid.

According to Jaka, the increase in the price of food before religious holidays is almost every year. "It must be influenced by public consumption, to make various things such as typical Lebaran dishes, chicken, rendang, and meat stew," he said.

Even though prices are starting to creep up, traders ensure that chicken and beef stocks in the market are still available.

Jaka also hopes that supplies from distributors will remain smooth so that the price increase is not too high before Eid al-Fitr.

Previously, the Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso ensured that the prices of basic necessities ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah were still under control.

Budi after carrying out the Clean Market Movement in Jakarta, Wednesday (11/3) said that monitoring the prices of basic necessities is carried out routinely through the Market and Basic Needs Monitoring System (SP2KP) which monitors prices online in various regions in Indonesia.

"Based on our monitoring through SP2KP, so we have online monitoring of SP2KP, namely monitoring prices throughout Indonesia at 550 market points or in around 514 districts/cities. Until now, thank God, the prices of basic necessities are under control, the supply is guaranteed, then the prices are stable," explained Budi.

Furthermore, based on direct checks at the Kramat Jati Central Market, East Jakarta, he said that currently people have started shopping to meet the needs of Eid al-Fitr.

"This is leading up to Lebaran, based on the check at the market, there have been many buyers, visitors who have arrived or increased, mothers or fathers who are shopping," said Budi Santoso.
