JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (Migas) announced the opening of 10 new potential areas of oil and gas blocks that have been completed through the in-depth study stage.

Director General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Laode Sulaeman said that these 10 areas are part of 110 potential areas that have been mapped by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources until February 2026 and have been completed by the Geological Agency and Lemigas so that they have better data quality.

"There are 10 (ten) potential areas of new oil and gas blocks that have been completed by the Geological Agency and Lemigas are open to prospective investors," said Laode, Thursday, March 5.

He added that the study was part of the active role of the Government through the Geological Agency and Lemigas to improve the quality of oil and gas data so that prospective oil and gas investors are more interested, especially in oil and gas exploration.

"These 10 areas are part of 110 areas of potential new oil and gas blocks that were opened by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources some time ago," said Laode.

Laode ensures that the government will continue to create an attractive upstream oil and gas investment climate through various new fiscal policies. Some of the facilities offered include more attractive fiscal terms with a split of KKKS up to 50 percent. For information, previously the split was only set at only 15-30 percent.

In addition, the government also ensures flexibility in the oil and gas contract where KKKS is welcome to choose the type of contract, either cost recovery or gross split, upstream oil and gas incentives to optimize production and the release of indirect taxes during exploration.

"The government is now more open and active in facilitating the acceleration of licensing and cross-agency bureaucracy. The government is also conducting direct exploration with APBN funding (including seismic), to reduce the risk of exploration and encourage investment," said Laode.

Laode also added that his party invited prospective investors who had the ability to express their interest through two methods, namely Direct Bidding through a Joint Study or Regular Auction. Direct Bidding proposals and Regular Auctions for the 10 areas can be submitted to the Directorate General of Oil and Gas starting from April 1, 2026 and no later than April 10, 2026 in a complete and correct manner.

"In accordance with the direction of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, we provide ease and open opportunities for prospective investors, oil and gas companies that have the capacity to carry out oil and gas exploration and exploitation activities in Indonesia," explained Laode.
