JAKARTA - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, decided to extend the placement of government funds of Rp200 trillion in the banking sector for the next six months or until September 2026.

To note, the placement of government funds in the bank was previously scheduled to mature on March 13, 2026.

"The addition of Rp. 200 trillion at that time, the deadline on March 13, will be immediately extended for the next 6 months," said Purbaya at the APBN KiTA press conference, Monday, February 23.

Purbaya emphasized that the extension ensures that the bank's liquidity is maintained and will not experience a decline due to the withdrawal of government funds.

"Make a lot of people, March is over, will the bank run out of liquidity because the money is withdrawn from the government? With the statement I just made, I emphasize that this will not happen," he explained.

According to him, this policy is taken so that banks have adequate liquidity support to continue to encourage credit distribution.

He added that the government also asked banks to remain active in finding debtors while still prioritizing the principle of prudence.

"So, banks don't need to worry about losing liquidity because the government will continue to support liquidity in the market. We expect banks to be more enthusiastic about finding debtors, of course, while still implementing the principle of prudence," he said.

He also revealed that the fund placement strategy since last September has shown positive results where through close coordination with Bank Indonesia, the growth of primary money (M0) in February was recorded at 11.7 percent (year-on-year), remained at a double-digit level.

Meanwhile, bank credit grew 10 percent in January 2026, followed by a decline in credit interest rates to 8.80 percent in January 2026, from 9.12 percent in August 2025.

"The interest rate on loans has dropped to 8.80 percent as of January 2026 compared to last August which was at the level of 9.12 percent. We will re-evaluate in September 6 months after the extension," he explained.
