JAKARTA - Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning (PKP) Maruarar Sirait targets that the construction of subsidized apartment buildings (rusun) in Meikarta can start construction on March 8, 2026.
"The plan for March 8, we will do groundbreaking at the location of the Meikarta land that will be built subsidized flats. This is part of the acceleration and breakthrough that we are doing," said Maruarar or Ara in his statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Friday, February 20.
He emphasized that before construction began, the Ministry of PKP would take a number of strategic steps, including understanding consumer needs and preferences through surveys with good and correct methodologies.
"We want to understand how consumers want. Therefore, a survey will be conducted with the right methodology and the right sampling so that this subsidized housing product is really in line with people's needs," he said.
In addition, Ara also emphasized the importance of the readiness of the supporting housing ecosystem.
"We will also survey the surrounding ecosystem, such as the availability of schools, hospitals, markets, workplaces, to transportation access. This subsidized apartment is not only a building, but must be supported by a decent and productive environment for its residents," he said.
Ara also revealed that based on BP Tapera data, in the last five years, financing for subsidized flats has only been realized by 140 units.
"BP Tapera data shows that over the past five years, subsidized housing financing is only 140 units. This is very small. With President Prabowo's direction, we must make a breakthrough. One of them is by utilizing the Meikarta land to become subsidized housing with a target of being able to reach 141,000 units," he said.
The government hopes that the construction of subsidized flats in Meikarta can become a model for providing affordable vertical housing that is integrated with social facilities, public facilities, and economic access for low-income people.
