SURAKARTA - President Director of PT Sarana Multigriya Finansial (Persero) or SMF Ananta Wiyogo stated that the housing sector has a significant multiplier effect on the national economy, namely 1.86 times.
He explained that every investment of Rp1 trillion in this sector has the potential to increase gross domestic product (GDP) by up to Rp1.9 trillion.
"Based on the study of DTS Indonesia, an independent institution, the housing sector plays a major role in driving economic growth through a significant multiplier effect with a multiplayer effect of 1.86 times triggering activities in various other sectors. Every investment of Rp1 trillion will get GDP of Rp1.9 trillion," he said in the role of the Ministry of Finance in improving the quality of settlements and community financing in Surakarta, Thursday, February 12.
In line with this, he said that SMF is carrying out a Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) Program which focuses on improving the quality of houses in slums.
Ananta said this program targets low-income people, especially the desil one and two groups, who generally have irregular incomes and have not been able to access formal housing financing.
"So the TJSL program improves the quality of houses in slums is one of the solutions that can be implemented to reduce the backlog of housing eligibility, this program also has an impact on fulfilling the goals of sustainable development," he said.
Several SDGs targets supported through this program include poverty eradication (SDG 1), healthy and prosperous life (SDG 3), access to clean water and decent sanitation (SDG 6), and sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11).
However, Ananta assessed that slum areas could not be handled separately or partially, and to encourage higher economic growth while achieving the SDGs, housing improvement programs must be designed in a coordinated regional planning scheme.
"Which is continued by the Surakarta city government through the improvement of environmental infrastructure, sanitation, drainage, and other basic access," he said.
He added that in the future, SMF will continue to strengthen its role not only as a provider of liquidity for housing financing, but also as a strategic partner of the central and regional governments in ensuring that housing development has a real impact on the community.
For information, in cooperation with the Surakarta City Government, SMF has carried out two stages of construction and renovation of houses in the Sangkrah slum area, Pasar Kliwon District.
In the first phase, as many as 47 houses were completed in 2022, while in the 2025 phase as many as 56 houses.
