JAKARTA - Efforts to strengthen the independence of the national defense industry have received support from academics.

The research team of Bina Sarana Informatika University (UBSI) developed a conceptual design of a chain-wheeled tactical vehicle for humanitarian operations of the Indonesian Army with an estimated development cost of around Rp710 million.

This innovation won third place in the Technology Creation Work Competition held by the TNI AD Research and Development Service (Dislitbangad).

The vehicle, which is the result of collaboration between UBSI students and lecturers, is designed to operate in Indonesia's extreme terrain, while also addressing the challenge of budget efficiency in the procurement of defense support equipment and equipment.

Technically, the vehicle has low ground pressure thanks to the use of a crawler track system, as well as a weight of less than 4.5 tons that allows for airlift capabilities.

An intelligent control system is also embedded to monitor the condition of the engine and fuel in real-time.

UBSI student Gildas Hamilu Shihhah explained that electrical innovation is a crucial element, especially when the vehicle is used as a field ambulance.

"Electrical stability is the main focus because the vehicle must support medical and communication equipment in extreme conditions," he said.

UBSI Rector Prof. Mochamad Wahyudi assessed that this achievement is relevant to the national need to strengthen the applied research ecosystem, especially in the defense sector.

According to him, the synergy between academics and the practical needs of the military can become the foundation for the development of a more independent, reliable, and competitive national Alpalhan, while opening up opportunities for fiscal efficiency in the long term.
