JAKARTA - The government has started building permanent housing (huntap) for people affected by the flash floods in Sumatra. The construction of the huntap is targeted to be completed in May 2026.
This was conveyed by the Minister of Housing and Settlements (PKP) Maruarar Sirait (Ara) in a Working Meeting with Commission V of the DPR at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 27.
"So I report here, on December 20 we have started to build permanent housing and pray that it can be completed in this five months during the emergency response period by combining CSR from the foundation of all friends as many as 2,603 houses," said Ara.
"Hopefully, May will be the majority of it (huntap), both in Aceh, West Sumatra and North Sumatra," he continued.
Ara admitted that he would continue to garner support from the private sector so that construction could move faster. He has also directly laid the first stone or groundbreaking for the construction of huntap in a number of areas, such as Central Tapanuli, Sibolga and North Tapanuli.
He explained that the construction of the huntap was carried out based on the results of field surveys by the Ministry of Disaster Management at the disaster site. Ara said that the location of the huntap was chosen by taking into account four main criteria.
"First, legally it is not a problem. Second, technically it means that it is not in the potential of flooding or landslides, it is safe. Third, do not be far from the life ecosystem, because building this house if the fields are the same as the house, later people will not want to live. Children's schools, places of worship, markets, hospitals, that is our consideration because this is life," said Ara.
"Moreover, what is our portion is a large number of permanent residences, because if one, two, three, five, then, under 50, it will be the responsibility of BNPB," he concluded.
