JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) reported that the sale of Green as a Service (GEAS) Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) services throughout 2025 reached 6.43 terawatt hours (TWh) or grew 19.65 percent year-on-year (yoy).
For information, REC is a certificate that proves the use of electricity from new and renewable energy plants (EBT), so that customers from various sectors can support carbon emission reduction without changing the electricity infrastructure. This scheme can also make it easier for customers to get recognition for transparent, accountable, and internationally recognized use of EBT.
"In line with the increasing trend of clean and green energy transition among industrial players, PLN recorded a positive growth in REC services throughout 2025 to 19.65 percent compared to the same period. This reflects the readiness of players in the industrial and business sectors who are increasingly serious in playing a role in the renewable energy transition to increase competitiveness," said Darmawan, Friday, January 23.
He explained, based on trends, the sales of REC in the last five years since its launch in 2020 to 2025 showed consistent improvement. This indicates that this solution is increasingly accepted as an instrument for business actors in supporting renewable energy while contributing to reducing carbon emissions.
"As the backbone of the national EBT provider, PLN is committed to improving industry competitiveness by providing green electricity services that are 100 percent supplied by our EBT plants through REC. We are ready to serve the needs of green electricity for the business and industrial sectors with an easy and fast process," said Darmawan.
PLN Retail and Commercial Director Adi Priyanto said that the high interest of heavy industry and large-scale manufacturing customers has a high energy requirement, which plays a major role in driving the performance of REC services throughout 2025.
"Most of the sales of REC are still dominated by large-scale industrial customers. In December 2025, about 55 percent of total REC sales came from ten customers with the largest purchase volume. This shows that the industrial sector is the main motor in utilizing clean energy," explained Adi.
A number of well-known companies with the highest REC purchases come from the industrial sector such as mining, manufacturing, chemicals, pulp and paper to the food and raw materials industries. With the volume of REC of each customer varies with the highest purchase reaching 779,000 megawatt hours (MWh) and the lowest purchase of 93,966 MWh.
"PLN emphasizes that it will continue to strengthen REC services as part of the Indonesian government's efforts to support the national energy transition target, while providing added value for industrial customers who want to contribute to sustainable development," said Adi.
Currently, PLN has operated 12 renewable energy plants that supply green electricity for GEAS customers (REC and Dedicated Source), namely the Kamojang Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP), Ulubelu PLTP, Lahendong PLTP, Ulumbu PLTP, Ijen PLTP, Cirata Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA), Bakaru PLTA, Orya Genyem PLTA, Saguling PLTA, Mrica PLTA, Lambur Minihydro Power Plant (PLTM), and Cirata Solar Power Plant (PLTS).
