DPR encourages BSD City to become a national pilot for the development of industrial areas

Member of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia Commission VII, Hendry Munief, encourages BSD City, Tangerang, Banten to become a national pilot in the development of a comprehensive, environmentally friendly industrial area, and able to empower local workers and MSMEs.

In a statement in Jakarta, he assessed the area, especially the BSD Techno Park as an industrially integrated area, because it combines industrial activities with residential areas, tourism, green open spaces, and lakes, thus creating a modern and sustainable industrial ecosystem.

"The industry we see today in the BSD City Techno Park is an industry area that is very extraordinary and comprehensive. This is a very good example and I hope that the Ministry of Industry can make it a reference in the preparation of the Industrial Estate Bill," said Hendry, quoted by Antara, Saturday, January 17.

According to Hendry, the concept of industrial areas such as BSD City in the future is not only worth developing on Java Island, but can also be applied in various other areas in Indonesia, including Sumatra.

He gave examples of a number of industrial areas in his electoral district, such as the Tenayan Industrial Estate in Pekanbaru City, the Tanjung Buton Industrial Estate in Siak Regency, and several other industrial areas in Riau Province which showed significant development.

Apart from the aspect of regional integration, Hendry also emphasized the importance of environmental protection in the development of industrial areas. He reminded that the Environmental Impact Analysis (AMDAL) study was not merely a licensing formality, but was actually applied seriously and consistently.

"Since a number of natural disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, we see that AMDAL has become very important. Not just a piece of paper permit, but it must really be implemented properly. This is where our supervisory function as members of the DPR," he said.

He also highlighted the issue of drainage as a crucial factor in creating comfortable industrial and residential areas. According to him, the beauty of the area will not mean anything if it is still prone to flooding. Therefore, the drainage system needs to be maintained, monitored periodically, and anticipated with a quick response, especially during heavy rainfall.

Hendra said that the flood in the BSD City area was quite fast and coordinated. He hopes that every region will have a rapid response team that is able to respond to emergency conditions based on information from the BMKG, including in anticipating river overflows and drainage channels.

Furthermore, Hendry emphasized that empowering local workers and MSMEs is the key to national economic growth. He assessed that the absorption of local labor in industrial areas must be a priority.

"Local workers must get the first attention. But no less important is vocational education. Collaboration between industry and vocational education must be in line with the needs of the industrial world," he said.

He gave an example of the success of the MM2100 industrial area in Cikarang, Bekasi, where dozens of industrial companies collaborated in determining vocational education majors that match industry needs. This model is considered effective in creating ready-to-use labor while encouraging the involvement of local MSMEs in the industrial economic chain.

With an integrated concept, environmentally aware, and siding with local workers and MSMEs, he hopes that industrial areas such as BSD City can become a new standard in the development of industrial areas throughout Indonesia.
