JAKARTA - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) through the Agency for the Control and Supervision of the Quality of Marine and Fishery Products (KKP Quality Agency) guarantees the halalness of domestic fishery products by partnering with the Halal Product Assurance Organizing Agency (BPJPH) in halal certification cooperation.
The signing of the MoU document between KKP and BPJPH itself took place in Jakarta, on January 7, 2026.
Head of the KKP Quality Agency Ishartini said that the halal issue is currently one of the important factors in strengthening the competitiveness and acceptance of biological commodities, including fishery products.
"In addition, it is also to provide assurance and peace of mind to domestic consumers that the products produced have gone through a halal chain of production in every sequence," said Ishartini in an official statement in Jakarta, Friday, January 9.
The joint agreement which marks the synergy of KKP and BPJPH has a scope, including socialization; education and dissemination of halal product assurance policies; strengthening the competitiveness of marine and fishery products through halal certification; supervision of halal product assurance in marine and fishery products; and the use of quality testing laboratories to support halal certification.
"The synergy between the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and BPJPH will strengthen the quality of fishery products, so that they are not only healthy, quality and safe, but also halal as guaranteed by the Halal Product Assurance Law (JPH) No. 33 of 2014," he said.
Previously, the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KP) Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said that Indonesian fishery products are currently accepted in 147 countries.
This is driven by the fact that the KKP as a quality assurance body for national fishery products has implemented robust and consistent international standards.
