JAKARTA - PT PLN (Persero) through its subsidiary, PLN Nusa Daya, successfully operated the Nusa Daya Krueng Raya Diesel Power Plant (PLTD) with a capacity of 15 Megawatts (MW) in Aceh Besar Regency on Tuesday, December 23 to increase the supply of electricity to Banda Aceh.
This additional supply is carried out as part of efforts to strengthen the post-disaster electricity system in Banda Aceh while welcoming the Christmas and Ramadan months.
PLN President Director, Darmawan Prasodjo, said that the operation of the Krueng Raya PLTD was part of PLN's steps to ensure that the restoration of electricity in Banda Aceh was complete and sustainable after the disaster.
"The presence of this PLTD is part of PLN's strategic steps to accelerate the recovery of the electricity system. After the disaster, we continue to move so that the basic needs of the community are immediately met and social and economic activities can return to normal," said Darmawan, Wednesday, December 24.
Meanwhile, PLN's Director of Power Generation Management, Rizal Calvary Marimbo, said that with the operation of the Krueng Raya PLTD, Banda Aceh electricity is now supported by several plants with a total power supply of 32 MW.
This electricity is supplied by the existing Lueng Bata PLTD owned by PLN Nusantara Power with a capacity of 7 MW and backup supply from PLN Nusa Daya of 25 MW consisting of 10 MW at the Lueng Bata PLTD and 15 MW at the Krueng Raya PLTD.
"With the operation of the Krueng Raya PLTD, the electricity system in Banda Aceh now has a stronger reserve, supported by the existing Lueng Bata PLTD and backup from 2 PLTD locations from PLN Nusa Daya, so that the reliability of services can be more guaranteed for the community," he explained.
Rizal added that later PLN will again increase the supply of electricity that supplies Banda Aceh with the operation of PLTD in Ulee Kareng with a capacity of 25 MW, so that the total backup power that supplies Banda Aceh will be 57 MW.
"The placement of the plant at these strategic points is expected to optimize the electricity supply, so that the community's needs can continue to be well served," concluded Rizal.
