JAKARTA - A total of 32,533 passengers and 7,131 vehicles were recorded leaving Java Island to Sumatra on H-3 Christmas or Monday, December 22 as the peak of the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru) flow approaches, which is predicted to occur today and tomorrow.

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) ensures that all operational readiness for crossings runs optimally to keep services safe, orderly, and smooth amid increasing community mobility.

Based on data from the Merak Post which covers Merak Port, Ciwandan, and BBJ Bojonegoro during the period of 22 December 2025 at 00.00 to 23.59 WIB, the movement of passengers and vehicles from Java to Sumatra is still relatively controlled before the surge in traffic in the next two days.

ASDP President Director Heru Widodo conveyed the readiness of the Nataru service to be carried out in an integrated manner with all stakeholders.

ASDP plays a role in ensuring the readiness of port facilities and the smooth running of services, while the operational arrangements and vessel schedules are carried out through mechanisms established by regulators.

"We continue to coordinate intensively with BPTD as the regulator and ship operators to ensure that the scheduling and operation of the ship runs optimally according to the needs of the crossing traffic," he said in an official statement, Tuesday, December 23.

ASDP also appeals to the public to plan their trip well and ensure that all travel requirements have been met before departure.

"We also urge service users to plan their trip well, make sure they have a ticket before leaving, and come to the port according to the schedule on the ticket," said Heru.

In supporting the smooth crossing from Java to Sumatra, ASDP ensures the readiness of port infrastructure and supporting facilities, so that the operation of ships scheduled by regulators and run by operators can run effectively.

In normal conditions, said Heru, the operation of the ship takes place according to the assignment, and when the density increases, adjustments are made to the number of ships operating with service capacity of up to around 31,039 small vehicles per day, in order to reduce the potential for queues at the port.

"The operational arrangements are carried out dynamically based on field conditions, post evaluation, and decisions of regulators together with ship operators," he said.

In terms of services, said Heru, ASDP also strengthened supporting facilities, including Express II services, 24-hour customer service, the addition of portable toilets, and the optimization of lighting and electricity supply in the port area, in order to increase user comfort.

To anticipate traffic density to the port, ASDP together with the police implemented a delaying system in a number of buffer zones such as the KM 43 and KM 68 Rest Areas, in order to maintain the smooth flow of vehicles to the port area.

ASDP also reminded the public to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather that could affect shipping.

Users of the service are urged to follow the instructions of officers, monitor official information, and adjust travel time for the sake of mutual safety.
