PT Pertamina (Persero) through its subsidiary Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) together with the Ministry of Cooperatives officially launched the Red and White Village/Subdistrict Cooperative Solar Power Plant (PLTS) program in Galang Baru Village, Sembur Laut Island, Batam City, Riau Islands.
President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Simon Aloysius Mantiri said that the solar power plant, which is planned to have a capacity of 400,000 watts with a battery of up to 1 MWh, was built to meet the energy needs of around 200 families who have not been able to access electricity and still rely on high-cost generators.
"Later, this PLTS will be managed with a cooperation scheme between Pertamina NRE and the local Red and White Cooperative," he said, Tuesday, December 23.
Through this cooperative, continued Simon, electricity from PLTS is not only used for household needs, but also supports productive economic activities of residents, such as capture fisheries and cultivation, including the operation of large-capacity cold storage and ice makers which will later be managed by the village cooperative.
According to him, the existence of reliable electricity built by Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) will reduce the operational costs of fishermen, extend the shelf life of catches, and open up new business opportunities at the village level.
The Minister of Cooperatives, Ferry Juliantono, in his remarks emphasized that cooperatives are the key to ensuring that the benefits of energy infrastructure are truly felt by the community.
"This PLTS is not only to provide electricity, but to become the foundation for strengthening the people's economy. With cooperatives as managers, the community becomes the main actors, not just beneficiaries," said Ferry.
He added that the Red and White Cooperative model integrated with renewable energy is expected to be replicated in other villages, especially in the 3T area, to encourage energy independence while increasing the income of cooperative members.
The launch of the KDKMP PV plant was also marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Pertamina NRE and the Ministry of Cooperatives on the development of cooperation for power plants for villages with cooperatives.
