KKP ensures that the results of fisheries are safe to consume ahead of the Nataru holiday

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) ensures that the results of fisheries circulating in the community are safe to consume ahead of the Christmas and New Year 2026 (Nataru) holidays.

This was revealed after the KKP together with the Gegana Police (Brimob) conducted a radioactive contamination monitoring activity along the production chain on December 16-19, 2025.

"We are going to the field in order to survey the quality and safety of fishery products along the production chain (upstream to downstream), especially ahead of the long Nataru holiday to provide assurance to the public that fish is safe to eat," said Head of the Agency for the Control and Supervision of the Quality of Marine and Fishery Products (Badan Mutu KKP) Ishartini in an official statement in Jakarta, Monday, December 22.

Ishartini explained that the field supervision carried out by the KKP together with the National Police Brimob targeted the upstream sector of fish, shrimp and lobster.

Including the expansion pond and hatchery/breeding farm in Bangka Belitung Province and West Nusa Tenggara.

During the activity, each agency synergized by combining competence and expertise in biosecurity inspections and critical control points (CCP) of radionuclides as well as early warning of potential radioactive hazards in the fisheries sector.

Then, the relevant parties also carried out public awareness or awareness of the aquaculture business actors and the surrounding community.

"This activity is in synergy with the National Police's Brimob Corps in accordance with their duties related to early detection of potential chemical, biological, radioactive and nuclear (KBRN) hazards, while we are engaged in controlling CCP radionuclides in the fishing supply chain," he added.

To note, currently KKP is the only Indonesian radioactive-free fish certification institution recognized internationally, including the United States (US) through the import rules (Import Alert) #99-52.
