JAKARTA The Deputy Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia, Faisol Riza, made an official visit to the Tenova Sp.A. production facility in Castellanza, Italy, as part of efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships in the development of low emission steel technology. This visit is an important step in encouraging the transformation of the national steel industry towards a greener and more efficient era.

During the visit on December 2, 2025, the Deputy Minister of Industry was accompanied by the Deputy Head of Mission of the Indonesian Embassy in Italy, Tika Wihanasari, and was greeted directly by the CEO of Tenova, Roberto Pancaldi, along with the company's leadership.

This visit is a follow-up to PT Tata Metal Lestari's (TML) invitation so that the Indonesian government can directly see the capacity of the coated steel machine technology developed by Tenova, a global technology company under the auspices of Techint Group.

Tenova CEO Roberto Pancaldi expressed his appreciation for the visit. He emphasized that Tenova hopes to strengthen its strategic partnership with TML to encourage the creation of low-emission steel according to the company's sustainability mission.

"Tenova hopes that the Indonesian government will continue to support our collaboration with Tata Metal Lestari to bring more environmentally friendly steel," said Pancaldi.

He also mentioned Tenova's long-term relationship with the Indonesian steel industry, including decades of cooperation with Krakatau Steel.

CGL 2 Investment Strengthens National Steel Competitiveness

Currently, Tata Metal Lestari is building a Continuous Galvanizing Line 2 (CGL 2) facility in Purwakarta, using new technology from Tenova. This technology is claimed to have high thermal efficiency, lower energy consumption, automatic coating precision, and emission reduction thanks to the heat recovery system and environmentally friendly furnace.

CGL 2 will later produce BJLASM and BJLAM steel which has higher corrosity resilience, while strengthening the downstream capability of the national steel industry.

In his statement, Faisol Riza appreciated the TML and Tenova initiatives. According to him, strengthening technology and energy efficiency is in line with the agenda of Making Indonesia 4.0 and Roadmap for Industrial Services 2025-2045.

"This cooperation is important for improving the performance of the national industry, strengthening Indonesia's position in the region, as well as accelerating the achievement of the decarbonization target," he said, in an official statement, Saturday, December 6.

GM Manufacturing TML, Rendra Fernanda, emphasized that all company investments are directed to improve steel quality while reducing emissions.

"Our focus is not only on production tonnage, but the quality and efficiency of emissions per ton of steel," he said.

The cooperation between TML and Tenova is considered to have contributed significantly to strengthening Indonesia's green industry ecosystem, starting from the Circuit Economic Roadmap, Net Zero 2060 commitment, to achieving the target of the industrial sector's NDC.

The visit of the Deputy Minister of Industry closed with a tour of Tenova's production facilities, technical discussions related to hydrogen reduction technology, and bilateral meetings to deepen cooperation in the future.
