JAKARTA - PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (Telkom) is expanding emergency response measures by adding connectivity support at various points affected by landslides and flash floods in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh.
EVP Telkom Regional 1 (Sumatra) Dwi Pratomo Juniarto, in his statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Monday, December 1, said this step was taken to ensure that people's communication needs remain met in the midst of land infrastructure conditions that have not fully recovered.
As a strengthening of emergency services, Telkom through PT Telkom Satelit Indonesia (Telkomsat) distributed Mangostar satellite services to 6 disaster posts spread across North Sumatra, West Sumatra, and Aceh, to support the communication activities of officers, volunteers, and residents who took refuge in disaster posts.
This step was taken to strengthen the use of satellite backups and radio IPs that had been activated at a number of previous points.
Dwi said that this additional support is an important component in accelerating service recovery.
"The situation in the field is still quite challenging for the TelkomGroup technical team to carry out recovery. For this reason, satellite services are a reliable backup so that people still have access to communication," said Dwi.
As part of caring for the affected communities, TelkomGroup distributed basic food social assistance at a number of disaster points to support the basic needs of residents.
Selain itu, TelkomGroup juga menyediakan akses WiFi gratis di 7 kantor Witel maupun STO, yakni kantor Witel Sumut dan lokasi posko, kantor Witel Banda Aceh, kantor STO Sigili, kantor Witel Sibolga, kantor Witel Sumbar, dan kantor STO Talu agar masyarakat dapat tetap terhubungan serta memperoleh informasi penting selama masa pemulihan.
Until now, the progress of improvement by the technical team continues, several sections of the optical fiber network and several STO points have recovered and are active again.
TelkomGroup targets permanent recovery at the location of West Sumatra by the end of November, while for the Aceh and North Sumatra regions by the end of the first week of December.
