JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) reports that the installed capacity of the national electricity system until October 2025 has reached 107 gigawatts (GW).
The Acting Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Tri Winarno, detailed that, in terms of composition, the portion of renewable energy-based power generation has only reached 14.4 percent.
"Of the total number, hydropower is still the backbone with a contribution of more than 7 percent," Tri said in a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Thursday, November 13.
Meanwhile, the Biomass Power Plant (PLTBm) has only reached 3 percent, followed by the Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) at 2.6 percent. Next, the Solar Power Plant (PLTS) holds a portion of 1.3 percent and the Bayu Power Plant (PLTB) at 0.1 percent.
"This data illustrates or reminds us that first, Indonesia has large EBT resources but still requires acceleration to be able to stand in line with developed countries that have developed EBT," explained Tri.
He emphasized that Indonesia's electricity structure still depends on coal as the backbone of electricity in Indonesia.

According to him, coal is still the mainstay of the baseload or basic load plant which operates 24 hours to meet the needs of national electricity.
"Our electricity system cannot immediately leave the PLTU but its role to maintain this reliability is significant enough that it still requires this PLTU," said Tri.
