Persuade Fishermen To Pay PNBP For Welfare, Minister Trenggono: My Heart Weeps See Fishermen Do Not Progress

JAKARTA - Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono held a dialogue with fishermen representatives to discuss the priority program of increasing Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) through post-production schemes.

In the meeting that lasted about two hours, Minister Trenggono wanted to hear directly the concerns of fishermen related to the government's latest agenda.

"I can understand and dive into what is happening in the minds of all fathers, this is also happening throughout Indonesia," he said at the office of the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Jakarta, Friday, May 21.

According to him, post-production PNBP payments have so far not been applied. Nevertheless, Trenggono ensures that the levy scheme that will be launched is beneficial for the construction of port infrastructure for the better.

In addition, he also revealed if the funds raised will be useful for belayan and ABK (crew) to get social security including health insurance, accidents, to old age guarantees that have not been available to the marine and fishery industry players.

"The result of the increase in PNBP was to help the fathers of fishermen as well. Later it will be partly reserved for traditional fishermen, and partly for infrastructure and technology. Seeing fishermen who didn't come forward my heart was crying," he said.

In Trenggono's record, the value of catch fishery production is not worth the amount of state revenue, where each year reaches hundreds of trillions while the state receives only hundreds of billions.

As compensation, if the post-production PNBP program is implemented then there is no longer a levy for the management of ship permits. This step is considered enough to help the fishermen because the amount of PNBP in accordance with the catch so that it is considered not to cause harm to fishermen.

Hearing the explanation, KKP claimed the fishermen finally welcomed this priority program. They are even said to be ready to have further discussions with the government to review the implementation of post-production PNBP payments.

"We thank you that the Minister can accept what we complained about. It should also be emphasized that this plan to be full of justice, meaning that if it wants to be imposed (PNBP), yes must be imposed all for its fish resources. Especially if it has a noble purpose, namely improving the welfare of the fishing community," said Vice Chairman of Mitra Nelayan Sejahtera Siswo Purnomo.
