Task Force Cs-137 Calls Radioactive Exposure To Small Relative Cengkeh Containers

JAKARTA - The Radionuclide Radiation Hazard Management Task Force Cs-137 and the Affected Risky Society (Satgas Cs-137) found that exposure to radioactive substances in clove containers was relatively small.

Head of the Communication and Diplomacy Division of the Cs-137 Bara Krishna Hasibuan said the Nuclear Energy Supervisory Agency (Bapeten) had examined the container containing a clove suspected of being contaminated with Cs-137 belonging to PT NJS at Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya.

"There was no contamination of Cs-137 exposure on the outside of the container suspect. Cs-137 exposure contamination was found on the inside of the suspect container with relatively small measurement results," Bara said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, November 3.

Bara said one container that was declared suspected of being contaminated with Cs-137 by the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) had arrived at the Tanjung Perak Container Terminal in Surabaya on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 22.00 WIB.

The Cs-137 Task Force in coordination with Kesyahbandaran and the Port Authority of Tanjung Perak Surabaya has carried out handling by closing the port area.

Furthermore, measurements were made on all clove products in the suspect container, where Cs-137 contamination was found in several parts of the clove product.

The Task Force also sorted out contaminated and clean products, then the contaminated clove products were separated into new containers at PT NJS.

Sebagai tindak lanjut dari upaya penanganan, ia mengatakan produk yang diketahui terdeteksi Cs-137 akan dilokalisir (disegel) untuk selanjutnya dilakukan langkah dekontaminasi dan dimusnahkan.

"Sesuai dengan prosedur keamanan pangan, produk yang terkontaminasi Cs-137 akan disegel dan selanjutnya dilakukan pemusnahan oleh BRIN," katanya, menjelaskan.

As a follow-up to the handling efforts, he said the known products detected by Cs-137 would be localized (sealed) for further decontamination and culling steps.

"In accordance with food safety procedures, products contaminated with Cs-137 will be sealed and then destroyed by BRIN," he said, explaining.
