PLN Icon Plus And Traces Plant 2,500 Mangrove Trees In Semarang Support Coastal Restoration And Net Zero Emission Commitment

JAKARTA - PLN Icon Plus together with Jekain carried out planting activities of 2,500 mangrove trees (Rhizophora mucronata) in Mangunharjo Village, Semarang. This activity is a tangible manifestation of PLN Icon Plus's commitment to preserving the environment and supporting efforts to restore coastal ecosystems that have a direct impact on the surrounding community.

This reforestation action is also in line with the spirit of sustainability carried through the Electree program on the PLN Mobile application, which invites customers to participate in Indonesia's reforestation through every electricity transaction.

A total of 2,500 mangrove trees (Rhizopora mucronata) grown in the coastal area of Semarang are estimated to absorb around 6,175.68 kgCO2e in a three-year life period. This amount is equivalent to the use of 7,098.49 kWh of electricity, or equivalent to the electricity consumption of 141 households for 1 week. In addition to absorbing emissions, mangroves also play an important role in holding back abrasion, improving the quality of coastal ecosystems, and becoming a habitat for various marine biota.

The entire planting and monitoring process is carried out with the local community, with the support of the technology platform belonging to Tracein. Through this digital system, each tree will be monitored regularly to ensure its level of survival, growth, and environmental impact. Monitoring data will be presented in a transparent and measurable manner to ensure real contributions to the environment and local community.
