Recalls The Late Wimar Witoelar, Sri Mulyani Recalls The Moment Of Meeting In Washington DC

JAKARTA - Innalillahiwainnailaihirojiun. That was the first sentence written by the Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani when he conveyed his sorrow for the passing of one of the national figures, Wimar Witoelar.

Through his personal Instagram page, the Minister of Finance talked about the loss of the person he considered to be a friend.

"Today I heard sad news. My friend Wimar Witoelar has been called back to the Creator, "he said at @smindrawati on Wednesday, May 19.

Sri Mulyani described that Wimar was a person with noble ideals who devoted his life to the good of this country.

“Wimar is someone who really cares about Indonesia - to be better, cleaner and more advanced. He shows concern by actively filling the public space through thoughts and conversations that are pithy, intelligent, honest, critical, witty but still polite, "he said.

Not only that, Sri Mulyani even praised Suvatchara Witoelar's husband for having the ability to build good communication.

"It's always fun to talk and exchange ideas with Wimar," he said.

Far back, the former boss of the IMF and World Bank then turned back his memory when he first met the figure of Wimar.

"I have known Wimar since the beginning of the 1998/99 Indonesian reform struggle. We are often in the same forum, explaining to the public the importance of reform for Indonesia, "explained Sri Mulyani.

Inevitably, Sri Mulyani saw Wimar as a true intimate figure.

"He is a true friend and has always been loyal to his aspirations of protecting Indonesia," he said.

Sri Mulyani's writing then became more complete by uploading a photo together when the two met in the United States.

"Wimar visited me in Washington DC (2014 photo)."

At the end of the closing session, Sri Mulyani offered her best prayers for her best friend.

“Goodbye Wimar, Indonesia and I have lost a friend who is always loyal and caring. Hopefully you will have the best place in the side of Almighty God, and have a safe return to meet Suvatchara Witoelar, "concluded Sri Mulyani.
