Airlangga: RI-US Trade Tariff Negotiations Enter The Finalization Stage

The trade rate negotiations with the United States (US) have entered the finalization stage.

This was confirmed by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto.

Airlangga said the Indonesian government is currently discussing the legal drafting of the trade agreement intensively with the US.

"Now the finalization of the agreement with the United States, whose principle agreement has been approved by President Prabowo and Trump. Hopefully it won't take too long to be completed," Airlangga said when met after the 2025 Investor Daily Summit entitled "New Economic Order" at the Jakarta Convention Center, Thursday, October 9.

Airlangga said that one of the draft trade agreements with Uncle Sam's State was about the potential for zero tariffs for incoming goods from Indonesia.

In essence, he said, goods that cannot be planted in the US, such as palm oil, cocoa and the like are automatically tariff-free.

"The point is that commodities that can be grown in Indonesia, but cannot be planted in America," he said.

Sebelumnya, Airlangga menyatakan, kesepakatan pengurangan tarif sebesar 19 persen terhadap sejumlah produk ekspor Indonesia, termasuk kelapa sawit sudah menjadi bagian dari pembahasan yang berjalan.

Namun, saat ini dokumen kesepakatan masih dalam tahap penyempurnaan hukum (legal scrubbing).

"(Exemption tariff) kami sudah ada. Tapi sekarang, kan, problemnya semua masalahnya legal scrubbing. Ini akan lebih detail daripada apa yang diumumkan secara terbuka beberapa yang lalu," jelas dia di Le Meridien Jakarta, Selasa, 7 Oktober.

Previously, Airlangga stated that the 19 percent tariff reduction agreement for a number of Indonesian export products, including palm oil, had become part of the ongoing discussions.

However, currently the agreement documents are still in the legal refinement stage (legal scrubing).

"Our (exemption tariff) is already there. But now, right, the problem is that all of the problems are legal. This will be more detailed than what was announced openly a few days ago," he explained in Le Meridien Jakarta, Tuesday, October 7.
