Pertamina Claims Etanol In Fuel Can Suppress Disposal Gas Emissions

JAKARTA - Pertamina Patra Niaga revealed that the use of ethanol in fuel oil (BBM) is the best practice that has been applied internationally.

Pj. Pertamina Patra Niaga's Corporate Secretary, Roberth MV Dumatubun, said that ethanol comes from plants such as sugar cane or corn, so that it is more environmentally friendly than pure fossil fuels.

"By mixing ethanol into fuel, vehicle exhaust emissions can be reduced so that air quality is better," said Roberth in a statement to the media, Friday, October 3.

He detailed that the use of ethanol in fuel has proven to be standard in many countries, including the United States through the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) program, which requires ethanol mixing into gasoline with general E10 levels or 10 percent ethanol content in fuel and E85 for flexible vehicles.

"Brazil is the pioneer of the use of sugar cane-based ethanol, with the implementation of the national scale to reach the E27 mixture on gasoline," he said.

Other countries that also use ethanol are the European Union also through the Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) policy, with the target of a renewable energy mix in the transportation sector.

"The E10 ons has now become a standard in many European countries such as France, Germany, and the UK, as a standard to reduce air pollution," he continued.

Meanwhile, Asian countries that have started using ethanol are India through the ethanol blending program of up to 20 percent or E20 in 2030 as part of the roadmap to low-carbon transportation and support sugarcane farmers.

This implementation has proven successful in reducing exhaust emissions, suppressing dependence on pure fossil fuels, and supporting the improvement of the local community's economy through the use of agricultural raw materials," said Roberth.
