JAKARTA - The shift in public choice, which now loves online shopping, requires business actors to be creative and innovative in communication and promotion on digital platforms. Through a public speaking training program organized by PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG), as many as 40 middle and small business actors (UMK) learned to improve their ability to speak to promote products at the Grand Ballroom Hotel Horison, Gresik Regency, East Java, in mid-September 2025.

Titled 'Encing Self Confidence, Stretching Competitiveness', the program organized by GIS in collaboration with PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk (BRI) of the Gresik Regency Development Unit, is a follow-up program to help UMK players increase sales turnover.

The forty training participants are UMK players from 6 Kelurahan/Villages in Kebomas District, Gresik Regency, including Singosari Village, Sidomoro, Gending, Sidorukun Village, Segoromadu, and Kramat Inggil. 6 UMKs of which are the result of cooperation in the UMK Development Program (PUMK) with BRI.

In addition to improving communication and promotional skills, SIG also facilitates and recommends access to financing through the cooperation of the PUMK program with BRI, which has the authority to assess the feasibility of the business and ability of UMK in payments, so that it is more targeted and contributes to encouraging business sustainability.

For two days, participants were given basic public speaking training to optimize product promotion, product promotion video creation, effective business profile preparation, digital marketing strategy with e-commerce optimization and social media, to business matching practices to find out effective communication strategies when meeting potential buyers.

Nurhayati (41), a PKK administrator in Kembangan Village, Kebomas District, which also produces Sujaku's banana chips with its group in collaboration with Bumdes Kembangan, expressed his appreciation for the implementation of this training. So far, the production banana chips products have been marketed simply, limited from mouth to mouth, social gathering, or through WhatsApp groups, without utilizing social media or online sales platforms.

"This training is very useful because it adds to our insight, especially promotional strategies through online media. So far, we only market traditionally, we have never thought of selling modernly and effectively. In addition, the public speaking material provided also opens a new understanding of how to convey messages confidently so that the products we sell are more convincing in the eyes of consumers," said Nurhayati.

SIG's Corporate Secretary, Vita Mahreyni, emphasized that GIS is always committed to supporting the progress of UMK in Indonesia as an effort to strengthen the regional economy as well as support the government's program in realizing Indonesia Gold 2045. According to him, the UMK capacity development initiative is not only aimed at making business actors able to survive, but also encouraging them to grow, advance to class, and compete in an increasingly competitive market.
